Ms. Joel was bullied as a child as she moved around a lot and was often labeled "the new girl." She moved 4 times during her childhood due to her father's job. She was able to escape the bullying once the school day was over, unlike children today where social media is 24/7.
In her professional career she studied Advertising and Business. Once she heard about how children were committing suicide from being bullied online and feeling the same emotional scars from the past, she knew that this was a society/global issue that needed to stop.
In her professional start she co-created a mashed "Groupon and Facebook" text messaging alert service called MoBull Messenger as an employee at the University of South Florida in 2001. It was written in Kotlers; Principles of Marketing textbook as a best case scenario for this work. Created $20M in revenue in the first 4 months of employment at AOL/Time Warner's Revolution Money (bought by American Express). She has 15 years of technology, marketing, and product development experience. Owner of Goldbug Group Social Media Consulting which started in 2005. She oversaw incubated start-ups over the course of six years. She was an Advisory Board Member of the UN Young Global Leadership Foundation and the Capstone Masters (final course) for students to graduate from their Masters program. She earned an Executive MBA in 2007 with a concentration in Management from the University of Tampa ( while working full time) and dual degrees of Bachelor of Science and Advertising and IAA in International Marketing Communication from the University of Florida in 2000.
